The Week of St John of the Cross<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 1977 the Discalced Carmelites community organises a feast in honour of St John of the Cross in \u00dabeda. Supported by the local city council and the “Hospital de Santiago”, it is celebrated every year during the second week of November.<\/p>\n

The first day, the official opening ceremony includes a presentation of the contents and activities for the week, and a music and artistic show about the saint’s work and poetry.<\/p>\n

The rest of the days, a series of conferences hold by the major national and international specialists on St John of the Cross take place. And in the end there is a closing Eucharist celebration in Saint Michael’s church.<\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 es la Semana Sanjuanista?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Desde 1977 la comunidad de carmelitas descalzos organiza cada a\u00f1o en \u00dabeda un ciclo de conferencias y actos lit\u00fargicos y art\u00edsticos dedicados a San Juan de la Cruz. Con motivo del IV Centenario de su muerte, en 1990 la Semana Sanjuanista se abre a\u00fan m\u00e1s a la ciudad y se traslada desde el convento de los frailes al emblem\u00e1tico y bell\u00edsimo Hospital de Santiago, gracias al patrocinio del Excmo. Ayuntamiento.
Estas jornadas se inauguran oficialmente en s\u00e1bado, con una breve presentaci\u00f3n del contenido de la Semana y, como acto central, con una representaci\u00f3n musical o de otras artes esc\u00e9nicas en torno a la obra y poes\u00edas del santo.<\/p>\n

Del lunes al viernes siguientes se desarrolla el ciclo de conferencias, donde intervienen grandes especialistas en san Juan de la Cruz, tanto nacionales como internacionales, desde las perspectivas y tem\u00e1ticas m\u00e1s plurales.<\/p>\n

Y la Semana regresa para su clausura al convento donde naci\u00f3, para culminar con una Eucarist\u00eda en nuestra iglesia de san Miguel.<\/p>\n
